The International Medical Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University is the first and largest international health care center in NingboCity. The departmentwas established in 2012 and provides high-quality international medical services toforeign people, international medical insurance holders, and high-level overseas talents and their family members in East Chinaarea. Patients receive medical service in our department come from more than 80 countries and regions around the world. It is also an important international medical communicationand cooperation base for Ningbo City. Currently, there are international outpatient clinic and international inpatient wards in the Yuehu campus, and an international outpatient clinic in the Waitancampus. Our hospital has signed contracts with 24international and domestic medical insurance companies to provide direct payment medicalservices.

Professional team and health service coverage:The International Medical Department is led by Director Dr. Stephen Zhan, a high-level overseas talent, to form a professional medicalteam composed of doctors,nurses and translators. Basedon the strong comprehensive clinical capacityof the hospital, our departmenthas recruited around 50 senior doctors with rich clinical experience and overseas training background from various specialties in the hospital, and established an international medical expert team. In addition, our medical expert teamcooperate with ourmedical consortium units and form an international medical service networkin Ningbo.

Our department provide foreign and domestic patients with diversified and high standard medical services, includingappointment-based international outpatient clinics, physical check-ups, international hospitalization, overseas physical examinationsand certificates(study abroad/visas/employment), health management and consultation, maternal and child health care, vaccinations, and application for international medical certificates for overseas travel/study/work.

Department contributions and honors: The team of the International Medical Department has successfully completed many foreign-related medical treatmentand rescuingwork, and provided high-quality medical service for international conferences and international sports eventsheld in Ningbo. Moreover,our departmentassisted the Municipal Health Commission toestablish Ningbo international medical service standards and regulations, andwe held conferences and seminars of international medical services andtrained more than 50 hospitalsand healthcare centersin the city, all of these efforts promotethe generallevel of international medical care in Ningbo.

Due to its clinical service quality in line with international standards, outstanding clinical treatment capabilities, and good reputation among domestic and foreign patients, the International Medical Department has been successively awarded as "Ningbo International Exchange Demonstration Base" and "First Batch International Medical Service Demonstration Hospitalof Ningbo City" by the municipal government. Our department director is also thenational committeemember of four national-level academic societiesand associations.

Scientific research and education: Duringrecent years, ourdepartment has hosted 1 National Natural Science Foundation project, 3 provincial level projects, and 5 municipal level projects. Wehaveobtainedthe projects of "Ningbo City Key Project to Promote Urban Internationalization" and "Ningbo International Standardized Medical Service System Research and Development and Promotion". The department has postgraduate mentors ofZhejiang University and Ningbo University,and eightpostgraduate medical studentshas completed their study and started medical career.

Relying on the International Medical Department, the hospital established the first "Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office" in Ningbo's healthsystem andcarry out international medical education. Our department has establisheda team of teachersthatcarries out clinical teaching and training for international medical students of Ningbo University every year as well aspromotes the internationalization of Ningbo’s medical education. The education  content includesformulating and carrying out medical courseteachingin English, clinical skills training and English teaching ward rounds. Weregularly hold Ningbo international medical standardization service training conferences and medical English teaching competitions; and also going to internationalschools to giveEnglish health lectures.
